Australian surfer Matt Cuddihy just found a vintage Rolex Submariner in the Pacific Ocean. We can say that the salt water was not kind to her!

A fan of Australia's wild coasts, Cuddihy often ventures into the ocean to collect trash, including broken surfboard fins. "It was a beautiful day in Noosa and for many years I have been snorkeling when there are no surf. I was content to watch the local fish and turtles but started to noticing an influx of things that shouldn't be there so I try to go snorkeling once a week with a mesh bag that I fill with trash that gets stuck in the rocks. It's mostly fins. surfboards and fishing lures,” he explains.

“There seemed to be a bit of sand that had shifted and revealed more rocks than usual. I found seven surfboard fins stuck between rocks. Glancing around, I noticed a Rolex Submariner with its bracelet stuck under a rock. The glass was completely scratched from the sand.”

The Submariner still works! You can say what you want about modern Rolexes and vintage Rolexes, the watches are undeniably qualitative.

The only downside at the moment is that the crown is blocked by sediment and the watch smells very bad according to Matt.

At first glance, this Rolex appears to be a reference 14060 but we can see that the watch is covered with an acrylic glass so it would appear to be a 5513 with a late service dial.

And this isn't even the first time he's found a watch at the bottom of the water... He's already returned an Apple Watch to a local resident who lost it during a storm!

What will he do with this vintage Rolex? Matt said it was being given to a friend who collects Rolex watches and who is going to have it authenticated and restored.

We sincerely hope that this Submariner will find its owner!
