It was in 1946 that Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex, created Tudor. Wilsdorf chose this Tudor name because he wanted to honor England's Tudor period.

Tudor watches used the Tudor Rose as their logo which is the heraldic emblem of England and has its origins in the Tudor dynasty. At the end of the 1960s, the rose was replaced by the current shield.

The main difference between Rolex and Tudor could already be seen in the 1940s with the introduction of the first Tudor Oyster: inside the screw-down Oyster case, instead of a movement manufactured by Rolex, there was a movement supplied by Ebauches SA, ETA.

The whole concept is there: offering high quality watches at a price lower than Rolex models. What a treat for collectors!
