It was in 1946 that Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex, gave birth to Tudor. Wilsdorf chose the name Tudor because he wanted to honor the Tudor period in England.

Tudor watches used the Tudor Rose as their logo which is the heraldic emblem of England and originates from the Tudor dynasty. In the late 1960s, the rose was replaced by the current shield.

The main difference between Rolex and Tudor was already visible in the 1940s with the introduction of the first Tudor Oyster: inside the screw-down Oyster case, instead of a movement manufactured by Rolex, there was a movement supplied by Ebauches SA, ETA.

The whole concept is there: to offer high-quality watches at a lower price than Rolex models. What a treat for collectors!
