Universal Geneve "Lapis lazuli" circa 1970
Universal Geneve was founded in 1894 by Messrs. Descombes and Perret in Le Locle. The manufacture did not take the name Universal until 1934 when it moved to Geneva. The brand will therefore experience great growth and become a chronograph specialist with models popular with amateurs and collectors such as the "Compax", "Aero-Compax", and the famous "Tri-Compax" launched in 1944. The The brand's greatest commercial success was the "Polerouter" watch launched in 1954, which accompanied the pilots of the Swedish company SAS during the inaugural flight of the first air route linking Europe to the United States via the North Pole.
