Vulcain Meteor II Automatic circa 1960
Vulcain was founded in 1858 by Maurice Ditisheim. Ditisheim founded the company in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a renowned watchmaking town in Switzerland. In 1890, Vulcain began producing pocket watches with complications, focusing on quality and innovation.
In 1900, Ditisheim trademarked the name “Vulcain” for the company, inspired by Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forging. The company began using this name for its watches, which helped to strengthen its reputation. In the following years, Vulcain continued to innovate and develop new watchmaking technologies, which earned it international recognition.
During the First World War, Vulcain supplied watches to soldiers of the French and American armed forces. Over the decades, Vulcain continues to thrive despite economic challenges and changes in the watch industry. The company remains faithful to its values of excellence and innovation.
