Universal Geneve is fondée in 1894 by messieurs Descombes and Perret au Locle. The manufacture ne prendra the nom d'Universal qu'in 1934 lorsqu'elle s'installe at Genève. The marque va dès lors connaître a very bel essor and devenir a spécialiste of the chronographe with of the modèles prisés of the amateurs and collectionneurs tel that the "Compax", "Aero-Compax", and the fameux "Tri-Compax" lancé in 1944. The more grand succès commercial of the marque is the montre "Polerouter" lancée in 1954, who accompagne the pilotes of the compagnie suédoise SAS lors of the vol inaugural of the première route aérienne reliant the Europe aux Etats-unis via the Pôle Nord.
