Vulcain Meteor II Automatic circa 1960
Vulcain was founded in 1858 by Maurice Ditisheim. Ditisheim established the company in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a renowned watchmaking city in Switzerland. In 1890, Vulcain began producing pocket watches with complications, focusing on quality and innovation.
In 1900, Ditisheim registered the name "Vulcain" for the company, inspired by Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forge. The company began using this name for its watches, which helped strengthen its reputation. In the following years, Vulcain continued to innovate and develop new watchmaking technologies, earning international recognition.
During World War I, Vulcain supplied watches to soldiers of the French and American armed forces. Over the decades, Vulcain continued to thrive despite economic challenges and changes in the watch industry. The company remained true to its values of excellence and innovation.
